Hidden underground on Brunswick Street is the most chic and trendy basement that you will find in all of Brisbane.  But this place is not a hide out - it is a place to be seen out.  For those of you missed the memo several months ago, The Brunswick Social has become one of the hottest 'it' venues for your weekend revelry.  This bar and dumpling house has welcomingly upped the ante in Brisbane's bar scene and all odds are in its favour.  As for the regular patrons, they are all pretty hot too.  It's no secret that the Brunswick Socialites are a cosmopolitan crowd of beautiful faces and urban trendsetters.  If you haven't already, then it is high time you jump on the dumplings-in-a-cave-bar bandwagon. ...
Walk down the steps and you will experience a brief déjà vu upon realising that the ex Lucid Laundry retail store has reincarnated into a modern social setting.  The white washed brick walls and hanging light bulbs still remain but the cavernous space is aesthetically decked out with bold art deco features, rustic wooden benches and candlelit tables.  It's somewhat bohemian but nonetheless glamourous, kind of like going to an art opening in an elegant renovated warehouse in downtown Brooklyn (hmm... minus the art).  Equally as appealing is the aroma of steaming dumplings emerging from the kitchen.
Are the dumplings really cooked authentic Hong Kong style?  No, not exactly.  It's all tasty enough for a midnight snack after many rounds of G&Ts but the 'classic' prawn and pork siu mai and the barbeque pork buns are poor alternatives to the truly traditional dumplings served at Yum Cha in Chinatown.  And for twice the price.
Admittedly, the trolley-pushing ladies at King of Kings won't be serving you dumplings and amazing exotic cocktails at 1am on a Saturday night.  Nor will you be surrounded by the same crowd of fabulously good looking people at Yum Cha.  For those additional benefits, I reckon The Brunswick Social is definitely worth paying the premium.
